Antarctica

Jan's many journeys to Antarctica and the Subantarctic Islands form the basis for his latest book: ANTARCTICA. The generous 30 x 37 cm format book is published by Thieme Art and has been specially printed on 200 gram snow-white FSC paper, which beautifully enhances the serene photos and subtle colours. Antarctica contains 250 striking photos that attest to the vastness of the landscape and the multiplicity of animal life that can be found in this region. While studying the photos and text you can also enjoy listening to the CD Sinfonia Antarctica by Ralph Vaughan Williams, performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Bernard Haitink. This CD is a free gift to accompany the book. Unique to this book are the stories of artists who accompanied the many South Pole expeditions from the year 650 A.D. Frieda van Essen has chronicled their tales.

ANTARCTICA is not only a book that belongs on your bookshelf; it also makes a superb gift for your customers. By purchasing the book you will also be supporting a worthy cause - publisher Thieme Art is donating a share of the purchase price to the United Environmental Organizations for Antarctica.

ANTARCTICA is published within the scope of the International Polar Year (IPY). This is the fourth occasion on which the IPY has been organized since it first took place 125 years ago. During the current IPY year, scientists from over 60 countries are cooperating to raise more political and public awareness of the Polar Regions.  For more information: www.IPY.nl
